MADISON, Wis. – Coming off its best finish of the year, the Wisconsin women's golf team looks to build on its recent success, Oct. 25-26, at the 54-hole Alamo Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
The Badgers placed fourth at the Cardinal Cup, Oct. 19-20, shooting a 32-over 896 which was just two strokes off the team's best 54-hole scorecard of the year. Brooke Ferrell tied for first and matched the school record for 54 holes (213).
Including UW, 15 teams—four of which appear in Golfweek's top 25—make up the field for the Alamo Invitational. Every school competing is ranked in the top 100, with the exception of UTSA which is No. 103.
Wisconsin will feature at squad that includes Michelle Cheung, Gabby Curtis, Ferrell, Becky Klongland and Nat Zeng.
Cheung, after picking up the best 54-hole score of her career (216) at the Windy City Collegiate Championship, Oct. 5-6, and Zeng were the Badgers' second-best performers at the Cardinal Cup. The pair went 12-over and tied for 29th. Cheung (75.09) trails Ferrell (74.09) by exactly one stroke for the premier scoring average on the team.
Curtis began the season as UW's top golfer but has not produced the same output in her last two competitions, as she tied for 61st at the Windy City Collegiate Championship and was knotted in 65th at the Cardinal Cup. Regardless, the sophomore is still third in scoring average on the team at 75.64 strokes per round.
Klongland demonstrated her second bounce-back performance of the year at the Cardinal Cup, as she placed tied for 34th after being 78th at the Windy City Collegiate Championship. Previously, the sophomore improved from a 104th-place finish at the first tournament to tying for 16th the next event.
The Alamo Invitational will span three days and take place at the par-72, 6,450-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
Round 1 will tee off, Sunday, from Holes 1 and 10 beginning at 11 a.m.
