MADISON, Wis. – Following a mid-week road win against in-state rival Milwaukee, the Wisconsin men's soccer team returns home to host Penn State and resume play within the Big Ten.
The Badgers (4-9-2, 1-2-2 Big Ten) and the Nittany Lions (6-6-2, 2-3-1) kick off on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT at the McClimon Complex.
The last time out, the Badgers earned their fourth road win of the year, as sophomore
Mike Catalano returned to the starting lineup and scored the game-winning goal to seal the victory for UW. Catalano hadn't made a start since early September due to an injury, but returned to the field stronger than ever, which showed last Wednesday in Milwaukee. The goal marked Catalano's second of the year and the fourth of his career.
Despite trailing Milwaukee 10-18 in shots, the Badgers were able to put away the goal and earned their seventh straight win against the Panthers.
Moving forward with the motivation of recent road success, the Badgers host Penn State and continue on with their Big Ten schedule this weekend.
The Nittany Lions sit in sixth place in the Big Ten standings, as they just recently broke a three-game losing streak with a win at home against Loyola Marymount. PSU now travels to Madison to face the Badgers in the 29th game of the all-time series, as the Nittany Lions lead the Badgers, 16-11-2.
Penn State has captured the last four meetings between the two teams, including the most recent two matches, which were held in University Park, Pennsylvania, at Penn State's home field.
Junior forward Connor Maloney leads the Nittany Lions in points with 13 off of six goals and an assist, while senior midfielder Brian James is second on the team with seven points off of two goals and three assists.
With only three games left in the regular season, Wisconsin is looking at its last three chances as opportunities to build momentum be move up in the Big Ten standings prior to the Big Ten Tournament. UW will also travel to Indiana on Oct. 31, and then return home to close out the season against Northwestern on Nov. 4.
Saturday's game against Penn State will also serve as Senior Night for the Badgers, as they will honor their 2015 senior class of
Drew Conner,
Anders Kristensen,
Adam Lauko,
Connor Revsbeck and
Carl Schneider.
