LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The No. 11 Wisconsin women's cross country team finished sixth at the Greater Louisville Classic Saturday morning at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville.

The Badgers finished with 219 points behind No. 8 Michigan (42), No. 6 Iowa State (77), No. 19 Penn State (112), No. 23 Minnesota (126) and Lipscomb (195).

The team was led by redshirt freshman Shaelyn Sorensen, who captured 26th place by finishing the 5-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 27.69 seconds. Not far behind her was sophomore Jamie Shannon, who was 28th in 17:28.69.

Also finishing for the Badgers were senior Grace Meurer who finished 51st in 17:41.45. Michelle Lee was right behind Meurer, taking 52nd in 17:41.94.

Sophomore Colette Richter rounded out the Badgers scorers, placing 87th in
18:01.32.

"When you look at the results, you see that the women finished sixth," UW Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne said. "What the results don't tell you is the real story. We held out Molly Hanson and Sarah Disanza and that is reflected in the team result."

"When we put together this year's schedule, we included this meet on it as we wanted another opportunity to run on the NCAA championship course. There is still a ton of racing to be done and it is early in the season. In two weeks, there will be no hiding because the nation's best will descend on our home course in Madison for the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational, and that's the real deal."

The Badgers will continue their season at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational Oct. 16 at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison.
