MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin softball team will square off with nine teams that advanced to the 2015 NCAA Tournament during the 2016 campaign including California, BYU, Louisville, NC State, Kansas, Arizona State, Minnesota, Northwestern and Nebraska.
"We're excited to have scheduled another outstanding preseason schedule to prepare for Big Ten play," head coach Yvette Healy said. "We are so fortunate to open up at Arizona State's tournament to kick off the 2016 season."
The Badgers finished last year with a 21-31 overall record and a 5-17 Big Ten record last year. They open the regular season against California at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona on Feb. 12-14.
Next, the Badgers head to Raleigh, North Carolina, for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Feb. 19-21.
"The most exciting addition to our schedule this year is the highly anticipated Big Ten/ACC challenge," Healy said. "We are thrilled to have earned a spot at the prestigious No.2-seeded location to play 2014 top-four ACC finishers, NC State and Louisville."
The USF tournament in Tampa, Florida on Feb. 26-28 and the Judi Garman Tournament in Fullerton, California on March 4-6 will hand the Badgers several big games and strong match-ups against Cal State Fullerton, Arizona State, Oregon State, Fresno State and Long Beach State.
"One of the toughest weekends each year is always at Cal State Fullerton," Healy said. "We take on top Pac-12 opponents and other strong West Coast competitors. We have a history of playing well in front of our West Coast families and alumni, stealing games from top-ranked opponents Arizona and Stanford the last few years."
The Badgers wrap up tournament play at the Rebel Classic in Las Vegas on March 11-13.
"We always have a great following in Tampa against the University of South Florida and in Las Vegas when we play UNLV," Healy said. "The fans from Wisconsin love to travel and support the Badgers from Arizona to California, to Las Vegas and Florida, as we play our first 29 games on the road this season."
Big Ten play kicks off for the Badgers in East Lansing, Michigan, against Michigan State on March 24-26.
"Big Ten play opens on Easter weekend in a highly anticipated matchup," Healy said. "We haven't played Michigan State since 2013, when our current seniors were freshmen. They are all excited to travel to East Lansing and look to start Big Ten play off with a bang."
Wisconsin hosts its first home matchup on March 30, as it welcomes South Dakota to Goodman Diamond for a doubleheader.
UW hosts four Big Ten opponents at Goodman Diamond, starting with a series against Ohio State on April 1-3. The Badgers step out of conference play with a home doubleheader vs. NDSU on April 5, then take on Purdue in a three-game series April 8-10.
The Badgers head to Minnesota for a doubleheader against the Gophers on April 12, followed by a trip to Iowa April 15-17.
A series at home against Illinois on April 22-24, a doubleheader against Green Bay on April 26, and a final series facing Northwestern at Goodman Diamond will close out UW's home slate. The Badgers wrap up their regular season on the road at Nebraska on May 6-8.
The 2016 Big Ten Tournament will be held in State College, Pennsylvania, at Penn State's Beard Field on May 12-15.
