Sophomore among 24 players invited to tryouts
MADISON, Wis. – Sophomore Kelsey Jenkins of the Wisconsin softball team has been invited to attend Canada's 2016 Women's National Softball Team Selection Camp from Jan. 2-8 in Tucson, Arizona.
Twenty-four players from the Women's National Team Athlete Pool will be competing for a spot on the 2016 roster. In 2016, Team Canada will have training camps in California and Japan before heading to the U.S. World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, July 4-9, and the WBSC XV Women's World Softball Championship from July 15-24 in Surrey, British Columbia.
Team Canada is coming off a gold-medal performance at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, defeating the United States 4-2 in eight innings in the finals.
After a stellar first season with the Badgers, Jenkins was named to the 2015 Canadian Junior Women's National Team last summer. She helped lead Canada to a gold medal at the Canadian Open.
Jenkins, the first freshman in UW history named first-team All-Big Ten, started all 52 games for the Badgers in her debut season and set the UW single-season record for all players with 42 walks. She knocked out a school record-tying three home runs in a single game against Rutgers on May 1 and led the team with a total of six homers on the season.
