Happy Holidays, Badger Fans!
Last weekend, as many of you heard, our series against North Dakota resulted in a loss and a shootout win. Usually I would give you the details of the game, such as who scored and who stood out, but I think it's best I resort to simplicity with this particular series. Yes, we lost the first game of the season. But to me, perfection does not lie in standings; perfection is exemplified through how a team fights back when faced with an obstacle. From this adversity we will learn and gain strength as we continue along the journey of the season. Putting the loss behind us, we all travel home with open hearts and positive minds, enjoying time with family and friends for the holidays before returning to kickstart the 2016 portion of the season.
As the stress of studying for final exams came to a relieving end earlier this week, break has officially begun. I'm currently sitting in my own living room, writing to the soundtrack of Christmas music while I admire the enchanting tree that sits on display. Christmas is my favorite time of the year. Although I wish there was a little bit of snow to add to the Christmas scenery, the joy and warmth that inevitably accompanies the holiday is contagious. It is a time to escape from the hectic schedule college and hockey entail, finding peace in one's family and home.
In my family, we have many traditions. From baking Christmas cookies to watching
It's a Wonderful Life, there certainly is never a dull moment! My mother, being the remarkable Italian chef that she is, loves to cook the most delicious meals each night. If you have ever been lucky enough to taste her food, you will truly understand the meaning of the saying "there is nothing like a home cooked meal!" I cherish the time we spend together in the kitchen dancing to Christmas tunes. The beginning of Christmas break involves watching the Blackhawks with my father, coaching the team from the living room, talking hockey just like we used to during my childhood. At least once over the holidays we'll skate at the rink I played in as a little girl, reminding me of the passion ignited in my soul that has taken me so far in my career. Those memories last forever. As for my sister and I, whether it's sleeping in each other's rooms or having mini-dance parties, there is always an abundance of laughter whenever we are together. The connectedness among my family that forms during the holidays I am so grateful for!
This year we are spending Christmas Eve morning together, going to our local church for Christmas Eve service, then it's off to my aunt's house to celebrate with the rest of the Wellhausen clan. As for Christmas Day, the four of us stay together, usually opening presents and having brunch together as a family.
Now that I've shared a bit of insight on my holiday festivities, I wish everyone a happy holiday season! Stay tuned for a surprise guest blogger that will share her holiday break stories as well!
