
Former Badgers making noise at AT&T Winter National Championships

Ivy Martin, Nick Schafer and Michael Weiss in action against world’s best
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Former Wisconsin swimmers Ivy Martin, Nick Schafer and Michael Weiss have stood out among some of the best swimmers in the world this week at the 2015 AT&T Winter National Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
Through two days of competition at the three-day event, Weiss has earned a pair of top-five finishes, while Martin and Schafer have each earned a top-four finish.Â
Weiss finished runner-up in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of one minute, 47.85 seconds on Friday night, second only to Conor Dwyer, who won the event in 1:46.62.
On Thursday night, Weiss finished fifth place in the 200-meter individual medley in 2:00.19. Michael Phelps won the event in 1:57.61.
Among the fastest female swimmers in the pool on Thursday night, Martin finished fourth in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 25.26 seconds, just out-touching Natalie Coughlin (25.27). Simone Manuel won the event in 24.83 seconds.
Martin swam in the 100-meter butterfly on Friday night, finishing 15th overall and seventh in the B Final with a time of 1:00.18.Â
Schafer finished top three in the 100-meter breaststroke on Friday night, clocking in at 1:00.71. Sam Tierney won the event in 1:00.15.
The third and final day of competitive at the AT&T Winter National Championships takes place Saturday. A live webcast of the meet, along with meet results, is available at usaswimming.org. NBC will also televise competition from the AT&T Winter Nationals on tape delay on Sunday, Dec. 6, at noon (CT).
