AMES, Iowa-- The Wisconsin Wrestling team met up with the Iowa State Cyclones to conclude the 2014-15 dual season in Ames, Iowa this afternoon. The Badgers dropped the final dual of the season to Iowa State, 30-16.
The match started at 149 lbs., with Rylan Lubeck grappling with No. 14 Gabe Moreno. Moreno won in a 6-0 decision to put the Cyclones up 3-0.
Switching things up in the 157 lbs. weight class, Wisconsin's TJ Ruschell defeated Luke Goettl in a 14-6 major decision to put the Badgers up by one, 4-3.
No. 3 Michael Moreno pinned No. 2 Isaac Jordan at 165 lbs. The pin at 4:26 was just the first of many to be seen throughout the match. At 174, Frank Cousins was pinned at 4:05 by Tanner Weatherman.
At 184 lbs., No. 20 Ricky Robertson overcame No. 15 Lelund Weatherspoon in a 5-4 decision. The Cyclones led with 15-7 going into intermission.
The action started again at 197 lbss and the Cyclones marked another fall at 6:12 as No. 2 Kyven Gadson pinned No. 14 Timmy McCall. In the heavyweight class, No. 2 Connor Medbery turned the tables and pinned Joe Scanlan at 2:42.
Kyle Larson outwrestled freshman Johnny Jimenez in a 5-2 decision at 125 lbs. before No. 7 Ryan Taylor hit the mat. Taylor worked swiftly to lock down a 4-3 decision over No. 3 Earl Hall, two-time Big 12 Wrestler of the Week this season. Taylor also defeated the No. 3 ranked wrestler his last time out, on February 8.
The final match of the day was Jesse Thielke versus Dante Rodriguez. Rodriguez marked yet another Cyclone pin at 2:11 to leave the Badgers with a 30-16 loss.
The regular season has ended, but the Badgers will be back during the first weekend of March at the Big Ten Championships in Columbus, Ohio. The NCAA tournament will take place in St. Louis, Missouri on March 19-21.
