EVANSTON, Ill. -- In a rematch of last Sunday's matchup, No. 38 Purdue (14-7, 6-5 B1G) once again came out victorious against the Badgers in the opening match of the 2015 Big Ten Tournament in Evanston, Illinois. With the 4-2 loss, Wisconsin's season comes to an end with a mark of 10-12 and 4-7 in Big Ten action.
The Badgers' 10 wins are the team's most since 2012 while the four conference wins were their most since 2011.
The Badgers started strong in doubles, as Sydney Rider and Ekaterina Stepanova teamed up to defeat PU's Natalia Davila and Lynda Xepoleas, 8-3 before Purdue took the first and third courts by the same margin.
Singles play was a battle, as both teams each earned an early victory.
The Boilermakers got on the board first as UW's Sydney Rider fell to Krisztina Kapitany, 6-4, 6-3 on court five. But Wisconsin freshman Kelsey Grambeau triumphed over Andjela Djokovic, 6-4, 6-4, to avenge her three-set loss last Sunday on court six.
Lauren Burich improved to 13-9 for the season in singles play, ending the year at 9-4 when playing in the fourth singles spot. The Hinsdale, Illinois native's 3-6, 6-1 6-3 victory over Purdue's Nicole Robinson tied the match at two points apiece.
From there, however, it would take victories from T.Bernard-Feigenbaum and Lynda Xepoleas on the second and third courts, respectively, for Purdue to claim victory over the 10th-seeded Wisconsin and move on to the Big Ten quarterfinals.
On the top court, Lauren Chypyha dueled it out to an unfinished match with Purdue's top player, Daniela Vidal, 6-4, 5-7, 0-1, as the match was halted once Purdue earned its fourth point.
Chypyha finishes the year 15-6 in singles matches, holding the No. 1 spot in the Badgers' lineup all season.
The Badgers return all seven members of this year's squad, led by current juniors Chypyha, Burich and Anastasia Tripolskaya. The three combined to go 27-16 this past fall.
