Wisconsin vs. Valparaiso
April 8, 2015
Goodman Diamond -- Madison, Wis.

Wisconsin Softball Head Coach Yvette Healy

On what it means for the team to get back on track with two wins at home:
"It has been fun to be here at home. I think since we have been here, we have been swinging the bats and running the bases really well. It has been a team effort and it's not just one kid, so we're excited to see the ball fly and see people run bases. Anytime you can put up runs, especially in front of your home fans, it's always fun."

On the performances of pitchers Mariah Watts and Taylor-Paige Stewart:
"For Mariah (Watts), from the start as a freshman, she has done a great job even after she gave up the home run. She didn't get rattled and she threw great after that. We are really proud of her, especially as a young pitcher. Taylor (Stewart) came out just lights out. For her to come out and to just start striking out, she put together seven strikeouts in a row at the start of the game. I think she struck out the side and then struck out four the second inning because we dropped one of them. She came out fired and that was what we needed."

On the morale of the team after sweeping Valparaiso:
"Us losing games in conference has everything to do with how good the conference is. There is a lot of pride playing in the Big Ten and there are no easy games. So every win you get is a big deal. To get one win against Penn State is a big deal because they are a very good team and we are young. We just tell them to not lose heart and stay the course and work to get every Big Ten win you can get. I think everybody is focused on using this in getting ready for Iowa this weekend."

Junior Pitcher Taylor-Paige Stewart

On how the weather affects her pitching:
"I think this being my third year here, you learn how to adjust. Definitely as a freshman, it was a factor. By junior year, you start warming up outside and figure out your adjustments early before the game so when you get in the game it doesn't affect you."

On her seven-straight strikeouts:
"I think I was feeling it. I think our mentality was to just attack kids this game. We just went at them. There was pretty good pitch calling by our coaches so we set them up pretty good."

On the team's confidence:
"These two wins were huge. Any win right now in April is big for our team because Big Ten is a really tough conference. Any win to get everybody confident right now is a good thing."
