EVANSTON, Ill. – On the final day of the Wildcat Invite, a pair of freshman capped off the event with wins for Wisconsin. Michelle Linden and Christina Zordani each scored their second singles wins of the weekend with gritty efforts on Sunday.
Linden fought back from a razor-thin loss in the opening set to outlast Iowa's Montana Crawford, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4), 1-0 (3). Linden posted a 2-1 record at the Wildcat Invite and moves to 4-2 in her debut season.
Zordani also finished 2-1 on the weekend in Evanston, Illinois, with a straight-set, 6-3, 6-3, win over Marie Mayerova of Eastern Michigan. Zordani adds these two wins to a pair of wins at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and owns a 4-2 mark on the season.
Senior Maria Avgerinos and freshman Melissa Pick rounded out the tournament with setbacks to Rachel Chong (Notre Dame) and Aimee Tarun (Iowa), respectively.
Up next, the Badgers will head to the Under Armour Baylor Classic on Oct. 7-9 in Waco, Texas.

EVANSTON, Ill. – As the only senior guiding three freshmen at the Wildcat Invitational, Maria Avgerinos is serving as a role model for the newcomers. Though she faced tough opponents, Avgerinos came away with a win in her only singles match and a 2-1 mark overall on Saturday.
Doubles play was all about focus and determination on the court for Avgernios and Christina Zordani. After dropping a match to Pittsburgh's Audrey Blakely and Lolade Ogungbesan, Avgerinos and Zordani came back to beat Michigan State's Athena Trouillot and Memije, 6-4.
Avgerinos brought her determined attitude to the singles court later in the afternoon. Though it was a tough battle, Avgerinos came out on top, fighting back from a first-set loss to beat Notre Dame's Zoe Spence, 1-6, 6-1, 1-0 (8).Â
The tournament will conclude tomorrow at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
