Postseason action begins for the Badgers at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Twin Cities
MADISON, Wis. – The Big Ten Conference will hand out a late October treat to fans of cross country. For the first time in conference history, the 2016 Big Ten Cross Country Championship will air live on the Big Ten Network, the league announced Wednesday.
After a couple years of tape-delayed races, the league will show the action live on BTN with coverage starting at 10 a.m. (CT) on Sunday, Oct. 30, for the women's six-kilometer championship race. The men's eight-kilometer championship race will follow at 11 a.m.
"We, as coaches in the Big Ten, have been pushing for this for years," UW Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne said. "As much for the Cross Country Championship as Indoor and Outdoor (Track and Field). It's the trend in our sport, all the major conferences are doing it."
The 2016 edition of the Big Ten Championship is being held in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, at the Les Bolstad Course.
This race marks the second time the Badgers will run at the Les Bolstad Course this season, following a September meet earlier in the year.
"It's exciting for our athletes, it's exciting for fans who can't make it to Minneapolis," Byrne said. "Anytime you get the opportunity to put your kids out there on TV and put your name out there, it's awesome."
In addition to the Big Ten Network's live coverage, the BTN will re-air the meet on Monday, Oct. 31 at 2 a.m. (CT).
