COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Wisconsin men's wrestling team faced off with its seventh-straight ranked Big Ten opponent, as the Badgers were defeated, 34-6, by No. 10 Ohio State on Friday at St. John Arena.
Â
The first match of the dual was a family affair, as third-ranked 165-pounder
Isaac Jordan met his cousin, No. 2 Bo Jordan.
Â
Entering the grapple, Bo (12-0), like Isaac (18-0), posted an undefeated record.
Â
Isaac got out to a lead early on, earning two takedowns in the first period. A reversal in the second gave the Badgers wrestler a 6-3 advantage. Bo was able to muster an escape in the third but Isaac held on to earn the victory.
Â
The result marked Isaac's 20th-consecutive win which dates back to last season. He holds the longest streak by a Wisconsin wrestler since Andrew Howe (165) went 30-0 to start the 2009-10 season.
Â
Andrew Crone picked up UW's only other win of the dual, as he beat Hunter Stieber in the first sudden victory period.
Â
Most of the scoring in the match took place in the first period with both wrestlers recording a takedown and an escape.
Â
Stieber won the second with an escape, while Crone took the third by gathering an escape of his own.
Â
The 6-4 decision was the 149-pounder's his fourth-straight win and 12th overall (12-7).
Â
In the 174-pound match,
Ricky Robertson lost to No. 15 Myles Martin in a 12-1 major decision.
Â
At 184 pounds,
Ryan Christensen met his team-leading 12th ranked opponent of the year, No. 16 Kenny Courts.
Â
The match was Christensen's second-straight that carried over into overtime.
Â
Unlike his win over Chris Pfarr in the first sudden victory period last Sunday, though, he was upended by a score of 6-4 this time around.
Â
For most of the 197-pound match,
Eric Peissig fought an even battle with Mark Martin.
Â
After falling behind, 2-0, in the first period the UW competitor went for two escapes to tie the score.
Â
Entering the third Peissig trailed, 4-3, but was not able to score in the final two minutes, eventually dropping the matchup, 6-3.
Â
Ohio State picked up back-to-back technical falls in the heavyweight and 125-pound matches.
Brock Horwath (HWT) and
Johnny Jimenez (125) were defeated by No. 2 Kyle Snyder and No. 1 Nathan Tomasello, respectively.
Â
It was Tomasello's 17th-straight victory to begin the season, while Snyder improved his record to 3-0.
Â
Jens Lantz (133) and Gabe Grahek (141) fell in major decisions to No. 10 Johnni DiJulius (10-2) and No. 4 Micah Jordan (10-1), respectively.
Â
In the 157-pound bout,
TJ Ruschell trailed 4-1 to 11th-rated Jake Ryan before getting pinned at the 3:36 mark.
