AMES, Iowa – After winning the 200 meters on Friday in a personal-best time of 21.23 seconds, Wisconsin men's track and field junior Lorenzo Larry was back at it again on Saturday at the Iowa State Classic.

Larry won the 60 meters in a personal-best time of 6.69 to capture his second title of the weekend at the Lied Recreation Center to cap off a solid weekend for the Badgers.

In the prelims of the 60 meters, Larry clocked the fastest time of the round in 6.73. Hours later, Larry shaved four-hundredths of a second off his time to win the event and to move up the UW top-10 list. Larry's time ranks third in Wisconsin history behind UW-greats Demi Omole (6.55) and Michael Bennett (6.66).

"He had a great meet this weekend," UW Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne said. "He seems to get better week to week and the more reps he gets, the more comfortable he runs. He's had a great start to his UW career and hopefully over the next two weeks he can keep improving."

Larry's time currently ranks second in the Big Ten Conference.

Redshirt senior Austin Mudd took seventh in the mile in 4:01.68, which ranks fifth in the Big Ten.

"He's chipping away," Byrne said. "He had a six-second improvement from his last mile up in Minnesota in January, which is impressive. He was out of racing for 18 months and he's getting better each week, which is all you can ask for."

Joe Hardy was 17th in the mile 4:04.34 and McKena Ramos finished 40th in 4:08.79. 

"Hardy also make a big improvement from his time in Minnesota," Byrne said. "We just need more weeks for him and a few other student-athletes.."

Freshman Eric Brown posted a personal-best time of 1:50.58 in the 800 meters to finish third in his section, while Cooper Barth clocked in at 1:53.21.

"Heck of a run by Eric," Byrne said. "That was a personal best, indoor and outdoor, and that's awesome to see for a freshman. It was his first time in a big meet, and I think he will get better."

Ryan Davis placed 12th in the 400 meters in 48.14, Corbin Ellis finished 21st in 48.67 and Alex Teague was 31st in 49.56.

Riley Budde led the way for the Badgers in the shot put, finishing seventh with a heave of 55 feet, 9 3/4 inches. McDonald followed closely behind, placing 11th with a toss of 53-11 1/4.  

Sophomore Zac Webster set a personal-best in the triple jump, soaring 45-0 1/4.

The Badgers 4x400 meter squad of Larry, Davis, Teague and Ellis ended the day with an eighth-place finish in 3:17.27.

The Badgers are back in action on Friday as they host the Red & White Open at The Shell. 

"We have two weeks to go until Big Tens," Byrne said. "We were hoping we would get some good performances in Ames and we are feeling good heading into our home meet."
