NEW YORK CITY – The No. 9 Wisconsin women's track and field team ended the two-day Armory Track Invitational the way they started, with strong performances on Saturday at the historic Armory.
After taking 12th in the 60 meters yesterday, sophomore
Ebony McClendon had yet another strong showing on Saturday by finishing the 200 meters in 24.68 seconds to win her heat and place ninth overall.
Brenna Detra and
Emma Reifel both faired well in the 800 meters as they both ran to new personal bests. Detra took eighth overall in 2:11.73 to beat her previous personal record by nearly six seconds.
Reifel was right behind Detra, capturing 11th in 2:11.93 to shave over a second off of her previous personal best.
Madeline Timm and
Elizabeth Flatley also did well in the mile, as Timm took 10th in 4:57.54, while Flatley placed 13th in 4:59.58.
UW not only found success on the track, but in the field events as well.
Freshman
Emma Haugen took home sixth place in the high jump with a clearance of 5 feet, 5 inches.
Both throwers, redshirt freshmen
Banke Oginni and
Kennedy Blahnik, were able to notch top-ten finishes in the weight throw as Oginni earned eighth place with a mark of 58-0 ½ and Blahnik took tenth place with a throw of 56-8.
"Overall, it was a great weekend in New York City," UW Director of Track and Field
Mick Byrne said. "Yesterday we had some incredible performances on the track by
Gabi Anzalone and
Michele Lee and today we looked good as well. The meet served as another time for us to compete before we head to Big Tens at the end of the month."
The Badgers return to action next weekend, Feb. 12-Feb. 13, travelling to Ames, Iowa to compete in the Iowa State Classic.
