ATHENS, Georgia – Although the first day of the Spec Towns Invitational featured only a few Wisconsin women track and field athletes, the Badgers' performances did not disappoint.
Redshirt senior
Kelsey Card collected another win in the discus this season with a huge throw of 189 feet, ten inches to narrowly beat 2012 Olympian Allison Randall of Jamaica by one inch.
The Plainview, Illinois, native also had quite a performance in the hammer throw as she earned a third-place finish and a new personal record of 192-5, which is only seven inches off of the Wisconsin record set by Taylor Smith in 2013.
Freshman
Haley Showalter also competed in the hammer throw taking fifth place with an impressive throw of 184-4.
In addition, Showalter and redshirt freshman
Kennedy Blahnik also competed alongside Card in the discus with Blahnik recording a distance of 165-1 to take fifth. Showalter collected a new personal best of 148-9 to take eighth.
