Men’s rowing ream finds success at 2016 USRowing Club Nationals

Seven boats from the Mendota Development Camp won gold at the 2016 USRowing Club Nationals
MADISON, Wis.-- For the men's rowing team, the 2016 USRowing Club Nationals in Cincinnati, Ohio came to a great conclusion, as seven boats with Wisconsin rowers winning gold medals. The rowers competed for the Mendota US Rowing Development Camp, which consisted mainly of Badger rowers, but also was open to all college-aged students. The competition went from July 13-17 and consisted of teams from all over the country.
The first gold came in the Men's Elite/Senior 2- Grand Final where Laing Wise and Andrew Flannery took home the top prize. Five out of the six boats in the final race consisted of rowers from UW in the Mendota Development Camp, with Andrew Griffin and Jonah Van der Weide claiming a bronze medal.
In the Men's Intermediate Lightweight 2, Tyler Stevens and Marcelo Buxton won gold by just over half a second and Derek Sachs and Jacob Weber finishing in third. In the Elite/Senior 8+ Final, the Mendota boat finished in first, four seconds ahead of second place to claim the gold. The Mendota B boat finished in sixth.
Other first place finished from the Mendota boats came in Intermediate 8, Senior 4+, Senior 4-, Intermediate pair and the lightweight pair.
