FOX POINT, Wis.
-- The Badger women finished the Milwaukee Tennis Classic with a strong Sunday performance. UW won all five of the singles matches against in-state rival Marquette, and freshman Melissa Pick and sophomore Kendall Kirsch finished as the women's doubles runner-up.

Pick and Kirsch teamed up to win their second doubles match of the weekend, reigning a 7-5 victory over Boise State's Milena Toseva and Kirsty Venter.

In the afternoon, senior Maria Avgerinos and the Badgers flexed their muscles on all five courts against Marquette. Avgerinos cruised to victory, topping Paula Tormos in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

First year Badgers Michelle Linden and Christina Zordani each battled in three-set matches to earn their second singles victories of the year. Pick and Kirsch also rebounded well from opening day losses to record singles wins on Saturday and Sunday. Kirsch pulled out a three-setter over Diana Tokar, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, while Pick dispatched Isabella Franks, 7-5, 6-1.

"We are proud of the way the girls competed this weekend," first-year assistant coach Megan Falcon said. "We look forward to getting back to work, preparing for the next tournament."

The Badger women finished the tournament with an overall singles record of 12-8 and finished with a combined 3-4 mark in doubles action. UW will look to build on its rising success in Minneapolis next Friday, Sept. 23 at the Gopher Invite.
