Badgers race at home for the first time this season
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's and women's cross country teams return to Madison this Friday, hosting the Badger Classic at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course.
The Badgers are back in action after opening their 2016 campaign in Minnesota at the Oz Memorial Invitational. The No. 10 men's team placed five runners in the top nine to win the team title, while the women had three top-10 finishes to place second.
Shaelyn Sorensen won the women's title, while Morgan McDonald claimed the men's crown en route to being named the Big Ten Runner of the Week on Sept. 14.
"We are excited to host the Badger Classic at the Zimmer Championship Course," UW Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne said. "We will race two different squads from what we raced at the Oz Memorial Invitational a couple of weeks ago. We look to give our runners that didn't compete in Minneapolis race experience on our home course."
The women compete in a six-kilometer race at 5 p.m., followed by the men's six-kilometer race at 5:30 p.m. Both teams will run against Illinois State and Northern Iowa while the men will also take on DePaul.
Admission is free for the meet and parking is available by the course.
Following the home meet, the Badgers will hit the road next week for the Joe Paine Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, on Sept. 30.Â
