Dubuque, Iowa -- A total of nine Badgers made it to the podium as the Wisconsin wrestling team finished third overall and took home two individual titles at the Duhawk Open on Saturday.
197-pounder Mason Reinhardt took home his first-ever tournament title. Following two hard-fought victories, Reinhardt sealed his title in epic fashion by pinning Northern Iowa's Tyler Hoffman in 3:48.
Unattached freshman Evan Wick earned his spot atop the podium by compiling three straight falls and a major decision to move on to the finals. The 165-pounder's domination didn't stop there, however, as Wick recorded a tech fall over Iowa Central's Stephon Gray to take his firsttitle.
Wisconsin also recorded the most pins (14) and tech falls (5) out of the 19 teams competing.
Four Badgers finished in second place. Heavyweight Ben Stone racked up three straight falls but was ultimately pinned by Northern Iowa's Carter Isley. Johnny Jimenez's two straight decisions in the 125-pound bracket brought him to the final before falling 5-1 against Northwestern's Sebastian Rivera.
Luke Rowh picked up three impressive wins to advance to the finals before the 141-pounder dropped to Missouri's Zach Synon 4-1.
TJ Ruschell muscled his way through the 157-pound bracket to reach the first-place match, but an injury forced Ruschell to a medical forfeit and second-place finish.
While wrestling unattached, freshman Jacob Covaciu made a statement by finishing third in the 174-pound bracket and picking up dominant wins along the way. After dropping his first match 14-12, Covaciu roared back to compile four straight pins.
In the 133-pound bracket, Michael Cullen recorded a fall in just 1:04 and a major decision before dropping a 7-4 decision to Northern Iowa's Rudy Yates. Cullen then rebounded by earning a tech fall and pulling off a 5-2 decision over Upper Iowa's Josh Walker in the third-place match.
Unattached freshman Zander Wick fought his way to the fifth-place match of the 157-pound bracket but was ultimately forced to take a medical forfeit.
Patrick Spray and Brady Wetter, both unattached freshman, also competed but did not place.
Next up, the Badgers return to Iowa on Feb. 3 to face Big Ten foe Iowa for a dual at 7 p.m.
