Notes to Know:
- The 2017 Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational saw a repeat winning-performance by senior Justyn Knight of Syracuse. In an intense last-stretch sprint, Knight crossed the finish line in 23:38.9, beating Stanford's Grant Fisher, who was second in 23:39.1.

- Northern Arizona also brought another winning performance, as the Lumberjacks won the men's race for the second year in a row. The Lumberjacks finished with three runners in the top five finishers, earning them just 50 points to secure the victory.

- Portland was second with a score of 123 points while Syracuse took third with a team score of 151 points.

Straight from the Course:
Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne
On the men's performance:

"We have a ton of work to do. It's not acceptable to be 25th in their own meet. Joe did all he could and put it all out there today. Ollie struggled. He's going to have to rebound from that. Ben Eidenshink, who hasn't run all season had a very, very solid run but we need to get two more guys to run. It was disappointing that we didn't have a fourth and fifth guy to back them up. We've got two weeks to fix it before the Big Ten championships and we're still going to go to regionals and still going to run at regionals. We can sit back and wallow in self-pity but we're not going to do that. It's not the Badger way. We've got to come back out and fight."

Senior Joe Hardy
On today's race:

"As an individual I ran alright but I think there's things I need to do better and there are things as a team that we need to do better. All that matters is that we keep our heads up going into Big Tens. This race doesn't define us and it doesn't define me as an individual."

"We are learning every race. We're learning what tactics we need to use, how to get in the race, feel good and feel relaxed and do what we need to do to win. That's something that's coming. It's a really difficult concept to wrap your head around, especially for some of the young guys. Every race we're learning and we just need to put it together. We have the ability. We have the talent. We have to get our mindsets in the right place and we'll be fine. Adversity is always healthy."

Following the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, the Badgers will prepare for the Big Ten championships in Bloomington, Indiana, on Oct. 29.
