Castellano and Keberle fell in the second round of singles draw

Ann Arbor, Mich. – Singles action began at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Saturday and both of Wisconsin's qualifiers, Sara Castellano and Lexi Keberle, fell in the second round, ending their main draw competition.

After going 1-1 in doubles play the day before, both Castellano and Keberle saw a similar outcome in their singles draw.

Castellano matched up against Paula Tormos of Marquette in her round of 64 match. The Italian native defeated Tormos, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

Lee Or of Northwestern found herself opposite the net from Castellano in the round of 32. Or took down the Badger, 7-5, 6-2.

Keberle, a freshman from West Bend, entered the weekend coming off a championship run at the Samford Round Robin, and ran her win streak to four in a row with a win over Illinois' Daniela Pedraza Novak, 6-4, 6-1 in her first match.

Facing off against Inci Ogut, from Northwestern, Ogut defeated Keberle, 7-5, 6-2.

Weather and court-space permitting, both Castellano and Keberle could end up in backdraw matches.

Badgers wrap up day one play in Ann Arbor
Castellano and Keberle ended 1-1 in doubles play

Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Wisconsin women's tennis team sent a pair of qualifiers to the Midwest Regionals hosted by Michigan University on Friday. Senior Sara Castellano and freshman Lexi Keberle went 1-1 in the doubles main draw and will begin singles action on Saturday.

In the duo's first match it defeated Huck and O'Brien from Toledo, 8-2. The women's run ended in the second round, however, in an 8-3 setback to a pair from Michigan.

Saturday afternoon will start the singles main draw. Castellano is set to face off against Daniela Pedraza Novak of Illinois. Castellano will take on Paula Tomos of Marquette.
