MADISON, Wis. – After a successful four-game stint on the road, which included sweeps of both Syracuse and Minnesota State, the No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team returns to LaBahn Arena this weekend to host WCHA opponent Bemidji State. The Badgers and the Beavers will meet for 7 p.m. CT contests on both Friday and Saturday.
Both games this weekend can be heard on WSUM and seen on BTN Plus, while tickets for both contests are available on UWBadgers.com. Free parking for both games is available in Lot 91 starting at 5 p.m. Fans can follow the game on Twitter (@BadgerWHockey) and check UWBadgers.com following each game for a recap.
1. SOUPED UP: Sophomore goaltender Kristen Campbell has been tremendous in the net for Wisconsin this season. In her time as a Badger, Campbell has posted a .88 GAA and .951 save percentage with an 8-0-0 record. She is only the third goaltender in program history to begin her UW career with an 8-0-0 record and a win on Friday would make her the first Badger netminder to start her career with a 9-0-0 ledger.
2. HOME SUCCESS: The Badgers currently boast a 16-game unbeaten streak at home, having not lost a game at LaBahn Arena since Dec. 3, 2016. In that stretch, Wisconsin has outscored its opponents 80-9 and outshot them 653-289. Seventeen different Badgers have recorded goals during the streak while UW has blanked its opponent in nine of the 16 games.
3. PINK IN THE RINK: Every year around the world, October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In honor and support of those who have battled or are still battling breast cancer, the Badgers will sport rose gold sticks on the ice for the duration of the month. The sticks are adorned with the names of women affected by breast cancer, many of them close to the players themselves.
4. 06-07 REUNION UW will honor its 2006-07 NCAA championship team this weekend as it is the 10-year anniversary of when the Badgers captured their second national title. Wisconsin defeated Minnesota Duluth, 4-1, in the NCAA title game in Lake Placid, New York, the site where head coach Mark Johnson helped the U.S. defeat Russia in the 1980 Winter Olympics.
5. OLYMPIC CONNECTION: The U.S. and Canadian Women's National Hockey teams will face off in an international friendly this Sunday in Quebec City. Puck drop is set for 1 p.m. CT and the game can be seen live on NHL Network. This is the first contest of a six-game series between the two countries ahead of the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.
Both the U.S. and Canada will feature five players from Wisconsin on their rosters. Senior Emily Clark will suit up for Hockey Canada, joining Badger alums Sarah Nurse, Ann-Renee Desbiens, Meaghan Mikkelson and Blayre Turnbull, while fellow senior Annie Pankowski will don the red, white and blue for the U.S, along with former Badgers in Brianna Decker, Hilary Knight, Alex Rigsby and team captain Meghan Duggan.
