Sophomore earns Big Ten honors after his top-10 performance in Louisville
MADISON, Wis. – Following an impressive performance in his debut race of the season at the Greater Louisville Classic, Wisconsin men's cross country sophomore Oliver Hoare has been named the Big Ten Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
One of four UW underclassmen to compete in the race, the Sydney, Australia native led Wisconsin at the meet with an 8K time of 23 minutes, 40.5 seconds. Hoare came in at eighth overall at the competition, besting his previous personal best 8K time by over a minute.
His performance on Saturday came on the heels of an impressive freshman season on the track as Hoare became the 10th Badger to break the four-minute barrier in the mile.
Hoare will race next at home as the No. 28 Badgers set to host the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational presented by Under Armour. The meet will be held at the Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course on Oct. 13 and the meet will be streamed live by FloTrack. The "B" races begin at 11 a.m. with the championship races to follow at 12:20 p.m.
