TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – A trio of Badgers finished in the top-15 at the 2017 NCAA Great Lakes Regional to lead the No. 25 Wisconsin men's cross country team to a third-place finish on Friday.

After staying at the front of the pack throughout the 10K race, sophomore Oliver Hoare crossed the finish line third overall, with a time of 31 minutes, 0.9 seconds. Next for the Badgers came senior Joe Hardy, who finished just two seconds behind teammate Hoare in 31:02.8 to take a sixth-place finish. Next for Wisconsin was sophomore Ben Eidenschink, who enjoyed a 14th place overall finish, thanks to a 10K time of 31:21.6.

Rounding out the scoring for the Badgers were junior Tyson Miehe and freshman Finn Gessner. Miehe crossed the finish line in 31:47.3 and Gessner finished in 31:53.0, to take 29th and 32nd place, respectively.

Throughout the race, the Badgers were able to stay within the top group of runners. Hoare, Hardy, and Eidenschink maintained spots within the top-twenty runners, while Miehe and Gessner stuck together for the majority of the race, consistently staying in the top 35 runners

Notables:

The Badgers earned a third-place overall finish with a score of 84 points. The team title went to No. 15 Michigan State, which finished with 68 points, followed by No. 10 Michigan, earning 79 points.
After their stellar performances at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet, both Oliver Hoare and Joe Hardy are expected to receive individual invitations to the 2017 NCAA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky next weekend.
Hoare and Hardy recently earned All-Big Ten honors at the 2017 Big Ten Championship, thanks to their 1-2 finish, with Hoare claiming the individual title.

On qualifying for NCAAs:
"I've got mixed emotions about it. I had a job out there to do the best I could, and at the end of the day, I was able to qualify individually. There were certain mistakes I made in the race that could have been avoided, but at the end of the day I ran pretty well, and I was generally pretty happy and content with my performance."

Joe Hardy
On the team's performance:
"The guys on the team, Ben, Finn, Tyson, everybody raced better than they did at Big Ten's. They raced like they belonged at nationals, and it's a shame that our early season performance is going to dictate whether we go to nationals or not. Right now I think we have a really good team, possibly a top-15 in the nation team."
