MADISON, Wis. -- Sophomore Abby Roque scored two goals and one assist to lead the No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team to a 5-1 victory over Minnesota Duluth Friday night at LaBahn Arena.  

Sophomore Mekenzie Steffen was the first Badger to light the lamp, launching a shot from the blue line past UMD (9-9-0, 5-6-0-0 WCHA) goaltender Jessica Convery to give Wisconsin (18-1-0, 9-0-0-0 WCHA) a 1-0 lead in front of 2,273 fans at LaBahn Arena.
Just 17 seconds later, Roque collected a loose puck in the neutral zone and buried her first goal of the night to push the Badgers' lead to 2-0. 

Following the first period action, junior Sophia Shaver and freshman Brette Pettet each found the back of the net to extend Wisconsin's lead to 4-0 in the second frame. 

Roque notched her second goal of the evening with ten minutes remaining in the final period to seal a 5-1 victory over the Bulldogs. The sophomore forward leads UW with 25 points this year. 

Play of the game:
With 12 minutes remaining in the third frame, sophomore goaltender Kristen Campbell denied a stellar chance from UMD after making a difficult shoulder save to knock the puck away from the UW net. Campbell ended the game with 28 saves to improve to 18-1-0 in net for UW. 

Three notes of the game:
The Badgers were a perfect five-for-five on the penalty kill tonight, improving to a .862 clip on the season. 

With the win, the Badgers improve their home unbeaten streak to 21 games. Wisconsin has not lost a home contest since Dec. 3rd, 2016. 

UW improved to 17-1-3 in its last 21 games against Minnesota Duluth.

On being back home:
"It was nice to be home again after a trip out to Washington D.C. We had some good competition and the whole process as I've talked about quite a bit is trying to get better every weekend. I was a little concerned with the 5 p.m. start but it worked out pretty good. I thank the fans for being here, they came out and really helped us. We talk about goals and two quick goals in the first period created a bunch of energy. It was a good effort, a good win and we'll move on to a short turn around tomorrow morning. 

"Tomorrow will be crucial from the stand point of if you can score early and create energy. We'll have another great crowd to help us."

On underclassmen scoring:
"The more people you have on the score sheet the better it is overall. If you get three, four or five, statistics tell us you have a good chance of winning. Multiple people on the score sheet that means everybody had a pretty good game."

On her success this year:
"I just think working hard. Obviously my linemates and me have been working together really well recently, with Baylee Wellhausen and Brette Pettet, we've been really clicking, and I think they're the key to my success."

On the LaBahn Arena crowd:
"I would say LaBahn is easily so much different of a game for us than when we go to other places and there's not as big of a fan base and not as nice of a rink. I think coming out in LaBahn we always start strong, we always play well. I just think playing in LaBahn, our team is always better."

On the short turnaround:
"Yeah, it's all about recovery now. We're going to go get in the cold tub for a while and then get ready, because it's a really fast turnaround- we'll basically be playing again in just a few hours. We'll wake up, come to the rink, do video, and then get on the ice. We have to come out fast to make sure they don't get the jump on us."

Freshman Brette Pettet
On scoring her goal:
"It probably should have been in on my first shot, but it happens. I think just keeping at it, and my linemates crushed it to the net, so that was good." 

On settling in as a freshman:
"I'm definitely a lot more comfortable now than when the season first started. I think that's due to our seniors making us feel comfortable in the locker room and as a part of the team."

Wisconsin wraps up its series with Minnesota Duluth on Saturday with a 12 p.m. start. Fans attending should note that parking will be available for $5 in Lots 29, 46 and 91. Fans that park in Lots 29, 46 or 91 must leave their respective lots immediately following the women's hockey game.
