NORMAN, Okla. – After suffering a narrow 4-3 loss to North Texas on Saturday, Wisconsin was unable to find its momentum going into play on Sunday, falling 4-0 against the Oklahoma Sooners.
In doubles play, the Badgers had their chances but couldn't finish off their opponents. On court one, Maria Avgerinos and Melissa Pick were knocked off by Oklahoma's Malene Stripp and Julie Byrne, 6-3. Similarly, OU's Ann Selim and Serena Nash teamed up to take down Wisconsin duo Kendall Kirsch and Sydney Rider, 6-1, to give Oklahoma the doubles point.
Following doubles play, the Badgers looked to find their luck on the singles court. However, the Sooners were a force to be reckoned with, taking the first three singles matches to win 4-0. Freshman Christina Zordani won her first set, but ran out of steam in a three-set decision, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Fellow freshman Michelle Linden and junior Kelsey Grambeau were both even at one set apiece in their respective matches before they were forced to end play prematurely.
UW will continue to face competition on the road, traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah next weekend to battle New Mexico on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. (CT), before taking on host Utah on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT).Â
