MADISON, Wis. – Junior
Taylor Amann shattered the Badgers' school record in the pole vault to lead the Wisconsin women's track and field team to a victory at the Shell Shocker Friday evening.
Â
Amann toppled the program record by half an inch, clearing 13 feet, 6 1/2 inches on her second attempt.Â
Jane McCurry was runner-up in the event, soaring 12-6 3/4, good for a personal record.
Â
"I got the new indoor school record," Amann said. "It was a good day. It's really helpful to have teammates there supporting you. As one gets a new PR we are there for each other, it's really great support. It just felt awesome."
Â
Amann and McCurry weren't the only Badgers to set personal records as 10 student-athletes set or matched career bests in UW's final home indoor meet of the season en route to winning the team title with 158 points.
Â
"We had some very good performances across the board," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Mick Byrne said. "Not just in the field events but also in the track.
Â
"We had a couple of kids who made the bus for next week, and that's important. That was the big challenge coming into tonight, getting more kids on the team for next week and putting us in position to have a good meet at the Big Tens.
Â
"So, mission accomplished."

The Badgers travel to Geneva, Ohio for the 2017 Big Ten Indoor Championships next weekend. The meet begins Friday and runs through Saturday at the SPIRE Institute, marking the fifth-straight year the league's meet has been held at the renowned facility. Â
Â
"Next week, it's a different ballgame," Byrne explained. "It's the Big Ten championship. It has the atmosphere, it has the name and now we just have to go down and compete. That's what next week is about. Performances don't matter, times, distances, heights. It's just trying to beat someone from the other team."
