SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Wisconsin closed its weekend road trip to the West on Sunday, falling to the Utah Utes, 4-0.

No Badger was able to pull out a win on the singles courts, however senior Sydney Rider was close. Playing at No. 6 singles, Rider came back fighting after dropping the first set, 1-6. She took Whitney Turley to three-sets, winning the second, 6-1, and up early in the third set,1-0 before she was forced to end play prematurely. 

Rider is 3-2 on the spring season and 10-11 overall.

The Badgers fell early on the doubles court and were never quite able to get back on track.

On court one, Maria Avgerinos and Melissa Pick were knocked off by Utah's Margo Pletcher and Brianna Turley, 6-2. Similarly, Jena Cheng and Taylor Calton teamed up to take down Wisconsin duo Kendall Kirsch and Sydney Rider, 6-3.

The duo of Kelsey Grambeau and Christina Zordani suffered their first loss of the spring, dropping a 6-2 decision to Jena Cheng and Taylor Calton.

UW returns home next weekend to host in-state rival Milwaukee on Friday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. (CT). All matches are free to the public.
