Junior finishes eighth at NCAA Indoor Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Two Badgers hit the field for their NCAA Indoor Championship debuts at the Gilliam Indoor Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Weight throwers Riley Budde and Banke Oginni became All-Americans thanks to an eighth-place finish by Budde and a 16th-place showing from Oginni.

Budde started things off in the men's competition. He threw a bomb of 71 feet on his first attempt and was positioned fourth after the first round of throws.

In the second round, he had another great heave of 69-4 ¼. The junior fouled his third attempt but was safely into the finals.

In his final three throws, Budde recorded a toss of 69-8 and two more fouls.

The Beaver Dam native collected his first first-team All-America honors with his third-best throw of the season.

Oginni represented Wisconsin in the women's competition later in the day. The sophomore's first toss was 63-2. She bested that in the second round, throwing 63-9 ½.

A foul on her final attempt kept Oginni from reaching the finals. She ended the day with a 16th-place finish to cap off a spectacular indoor season.

The Badgers move outside for the start of the 2017 outdoor season. Their first meet will be the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic March 24-26 in Riverside, California.
