MADISON, Wis. - The Nittany Lions took the Badgers to task, overwhelming them, 7-0, Sunday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. 

Despite valiant efforts, the Badgers came up short in singles action. Playing at the No. 1 slot, senior Maria Avgerinos fought back after losing her first set, 6-2, to defeat PSU's Katia Blik in the second set, 6-3. Avgerinos ultimately fell in the third, 6-0. 

Freshman Melissa Pick also displayed a strong effort, playing at the No. 6 position. She came out firing in the first set to defeat Penn State's Bennett Dunn, 6-0. However, after the first set Pick found herself fighting to stay ahead. Although she fought to the bitter end, she fell in the second set, 7-6 (7-5), and the third set, 1-0 (7).

UW held tight matches on the doubles court, but Penn State finished strong to claim the doubles point. New doubles pair, Avgerinos and Kelsey Grambeau, suffered an early setback, 6-2, on court one. Courts two and three tried to respond holding close to their Penn State opponents. Playing at the No. 3 position,  Michelle Linden and Pick took Penn State's Katia Blik and Samantha Smith to a tiebreaker set, but ultimately fell, 7-5. Similarly, Sydney Rider and Christina Zordani trailed the PSU duo of Devan McCluskey and Shannon Hanley, 6-5, before their match was abandoned. 

The Badgers continue Big Ten play on Friday, March 24 when they host the Iowa Hawkeyes. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. (CT).
