SAN DIEGO – The Wisconsin men's track and field outdoor season began with
Lorenzo Larry picking up right where he left off from the indoor season, as the senior took home two victories at the Aztec Invitational on Friday.
Larry won the 100 meters in 10.55 seconds, while teammate
Alex Teague was fifth in 10.94 seconds.
Hours later, Larry claimed victory in the 200 meters with a time of 21.44, while fellow senior
Ryan Davis was third in 21.54. Teague netted his second top-five finish of the afternoon, placing fifth in the 200 in 21.97.
In the 5000 meter invitational run, nine Badgers competed with
Carl Hirsch leading the way with a fourth-place finish in 14:47.84. Following was

Zack Snider,
Olin Hacker,
Joe Hardy,
Russell Sandvold and
Malachy Schrobilgen, with all seven UW runners coming in the top 10 and within six seconds of Hirsch's time.
Sophomore
Trent Nytes took fourth in the long jump with a mark of 22 feet and finished eighth in the 110 hurdles in 15.49.
Action in San Diego resumes on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT at the SDSU Sports Deck with the hammer throw.
Afflitto finishes third at UC-Riverside Spring Classic
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – In his collegiate decathlon debut, UW redshirt freshman
Paul Afflitto didn't disappoint with a third-place finish at the UC-Riverside Spring Classic on Friday.
Afflitto earned a score of 6,696 points during the 10-discipline event at the UC-Riverside Track and Field Stadium.
The Minnetonka, Minnesota, native began the second day with a time of 15.53 seconds in the 110 hurdles before throwing the discus 109-6.
Afflitto soared 13 feet, 1 1/4 inches (3.99 meters) in the pole vault before winning the javelin throw with a toss of 185-4 1/4 (56.50m).Â
The redshirt freshman wrapped up the decathlon with a time of 5:06.01 in the 1500 meters.
The UC-Riverside Spring Classic resumes at 12 p.m. CT with the javelin throw.
