MADISON, Wis. – Enhancements to the Goodman Softball Complex were recently completed thanks to a $600,000 gift from the Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Foundation Inc.
The project is highlighted by the addition of a new high-definition video board which will elevate the game day atmosphere for the Wisconsin Softball team by providing fans with highlight videos. Fans will be further immersed in the game with the addition of player headshots and various stat displays. Additional graphic displays featuring current and former players have been added to the in- and outfields
"I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Goodman Foundation," director of athletics Barry Alvarez said. "Their commitment to UW Athletics, and in particular softball, is inspiring."
"The Goodman Foundation is proud to continue the association that Irwin and Bob Goodman had with the UW women's softball team," said E.G. Schramka, executive director of the Goodman Foundation. "We know that these enhancements will provide many benefits for current and future student-athletes and fans as well as keep the softball team competitive in the Big Ten and nationally."
"A terrific facility has been made even better," Wisconsin softball head coach Yvette Healy added. "I can't wait for our fans to see the enhancements this spring. The new video scoreboard will make our game day atmosphere even more exciting for families and friends to experience a Badger softball game.
Irwin and Robert, who passed in 2009 and 2010, respectively, were longtime area businessmen and Bob was an avid softball player. Over the years, the brothers made a significant impact on UW Athletics by generously providing funds to support a host of needs. Of particular note, the Madison jewelers provided $500,000 of the original $1.2 million to build the "Goodman Diamond," which opened in 1999. In 2011, the Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Foundation Inc. made a $1.8 million gift toward the construction of a 16,500 square foot, on-campus indoor softball practice facility located immediately adjacent to the Goodman Diamond. The indoor facility opened in February 2013.
The Wisconsin softball team will open the 2017 home season on March 31 against Nebraska at 4 p.m. CT.
