MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – As the Badgers hit the road for their first Big Ten match this season, they struggled to find their footing in Gopher territory. Wisconsin was unable to surpass Minnesota on both the doubles and singles court, dropping a 7-0 decision. Â
As one of two seniors in the UW lineup, Maria Avgerinos continued to display resilience on the court, taking her Minnesota opponent to a three-set match. After losing the first set 6-2, Avgerinos came back firing with a 6-4 victory in the second. She ultimately fell in the third set, 1-0 (5).
On the doubles court, No. 2 duo Christina Zordani and Kelsey Grambeau held on tight at 4-4 against Minnesota's Caroline Ryba and Cammy Frei. However, their match went unfinished as Minnesota swept the other two doubles courts. Zordani and Grambeau remain at 4-1 in dual play this season.
The Badgers continue their competition on the road in two weeks when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State. The match is scheduled for Friday, March 17 at 4 p.m. (CT).
