UW enters final round tied for fifth
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- He may be just a freshman, but Nick Robinson sits atop the players' leaderboard through two rounds of the Boilermaker Invitational after ending the day at 3-under to pace the Wisconsin men's golf team.
Â
Robinson (71-70=141) matched his career-best 36-hole total to sit one stroke ahead of Kent State's Bjarki Petursson and two in front of Purdue's Austin Eoff.
Â
As a team, the Badgers (293-302=595) are tied for fifth with Northwestern.
Â
"Our young guys played really solid today and Nick's in a really good position as well as Jordan [Hahn]," UW head coach Michael Burcin said. "It was very difficult out there today and blew 25-30 mph winds all day so the golf course was very challenging, but I thought we came at it well."
Â
Sophomore Jordan Hahn (69-77=146) started the tournament on a high note by firing a 3-under 69. At 2-over, Hahn enters the final round tied for sixth and will seek his fourth top-10 finish of the year.
Â
Freshman Pete Kuhl (74-77=151) ended the day at 7-over to sit in a tie for 33rd, while senior Ben Skogen (75-80=155) finished four strokes back in a tie for 57th while competing as an individual.
Â
Junior Eddie Wajda (79-78=157) and sophomore Brett Robinson (83-81=164) both improved in the second round to jump into a tie for 65th and 82nd, respectively.
Â
Kent State sits atop the team leaderboard at 5-over, followed by Purdue (+11), UNLV (+13) and UCF (+16). The Badgers are seven strokes ahead of seventh-place Ohio State (+26) in the 15-team field.
Â
"We're in a good spot heading into tomorrow so there are a lot of positives to take away from today," Burcin said. "We're really excited to get back out there tomorrow and we know a lot of good things can happen tomorrow."
Â
Sunday's final round is set to tee off at 7 a.m. (CT). Live scoring can be followed at BirdieFire.com.
