UW enters final round in fourth
BALTIMORE -- Despite the team's youth, the Wisconsin men's golf team remained calm under pressure to jump up two spots into fourth place following the second round of the Big Ten Championships at the Baltimore Country Club.
The Badgers (288-284=572) shaved four strokes off the first round thanks to two golfers hitting below par.
"Today was another solid day. The guys were really composed and for a young squad I think we're doing a great job," UW head coach Michael Burcin said. "We're excited for another opportunity to keep moving up tomorrow and I think the guys are in a good place."
At 1-over, freshman Nick Robinson (72-69=141) enters the second round tied for seventh. The Palos Verdes, California, native enters the tournament fresh off a tied-for-third finish at the Boilermaker Invitational, which marked his best finish as a Badger.
Two strokes behind sits sophomore Jordan Hahn (70-73=143), who recorded a 3-over 73 to move into a tie for 17th.
Senior Ben Skogen (75-69=144) matched Robinson to record the Badgers' best round of the day with a 1-under 69 to jump into a tie for 24th.
"Being a senior, Ben Skogen has been huge for us so far and he really stepped up today when the pressure was on, so I'm really happy for him," Burcin said.
At 6-over, junior Eddie Wajda (73-73=143) shot another 3-over 73 to end the round tied for 33rd. Freshman Pete Kuhl (73-74=147) sits one stroke back in a tie for 37th.
Illinois strengthened its lead at 12-under par, followed by Purdue and Northwestern vying for second at 8-over. The Badgers are three strokes ahead of Ohio State and five in front of sixth-place Penn State.
UW is set to tee off Sunday's final round at 7 a.m. (CT). Live scoring can be found at Golfstatresults.com.
