Badgers prepare for tilt in Tucson

Wisconsin to compete at Jim Click Shootout Saturday
MADISON, Wis. --Â The Wisconsin men's track and field team will take a trek to Tuscon, Arizona, this weekend for the 2017 Jim Click Shootout.

The meet, held this Saturday, will include Iowa, TCU, Oklahoma State, Northern Arizona University and host school Arizona. Men's field events begins at 1 p.m. CT while the first track event takes place at 2:30 p.m.

Eric Brown had a break-out indoor season for the Badgers. The Milwaukee native ran a personal-best 1:49.23 in the 800 meters at the Big Ten indoor meet to place sixth. He began his outdoor season with a fourth place showing in the 400 meters at the UC-Riverside Spring Classic, clocking personal record time of 48.17 seconds. This weekend he is seeded fourth in the 800 meters.

Pole vaulters Rashid Coulibaly, Tim Guthrie and Jake Wallenfang will also be in action. At the Aztec Invitational, Coulibaly finished third with a height of 16 feet, 3 ¼ inches. Guthrie got sixth in the event, clearing 45-9 ¼. The trio of Badgers all placed in the top nine at the Big Ten Indoor meet with their best marks of the indoor season. They also have the top three marks of the field this weekend.

Senior Lorenzo Larry won four sprit titles in California two weekends ago. He was the fastest runner in the 100 and 200 meters at both the Aztec Invitational and the UC-Riverside Spring Classic. Larry also ranks eighth all-time at Wisconsin in the 100 meters and seventh all-time in the 200 meters. At the Jim Click Shootout he will also be competing in the 100 and 200 meters, seeded third in the 100 and fifth in the 200.

Travis Toliver made his way onto the all-time list during his first outing of the season. In the javelin throw at the Aztec Invitational the redshirt freshman had a massive toss of 201-6 to win the event and rank eighth in school history. This weekend Toliver is slated to compete in the javelin and 110 hurdles.

Throwers Josh McDonald and Riley Budde began their season at the Aztec Invitational placing second and fourth in the discus, respectively. Budde has the ability to flex his muscles in the shot put, discus and hammer throw as he is on the all-time list in all three events and is set to appear in all three this weekend as well. McDonald specializes in the discus, ranking seventh all-time, and will compete in discus and shot put on Saturday.

Multi-event athlete Paul Afflitto will be focusing on the long jump, 110 hurdles and 400 meters this weekend after competing in his first career decathlon at the UC-Riverside Spring Classic. The freshman was first in the field in the 100 meters and javelin and third-best in the 400 meters and 100 meter hurdles en route to a third-place finish overall with 6,696 points.
