MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin track and field student-athletes
Riley Budde and
Emma Haugen were named the Big Ten Field Athletes of the Week after their tremendous performances at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic, the league announced Wednesday.
It marks the second time that Budde, a Beaver Dam, native, has received the honor, while Haugen took home her first career weekly award from the Big Ten.
Budde broke the Badgers' school record in the shot put with a heave of 63 feet, 8 3/4 inches, en route to a win at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic. His shot put mark ranks third in the Big Ten Conference and 12th in the NCAA.
Budde's record-breaking showing in the shot put came hours after he won the hammer throw with a toss of 219-1. That mark ranks second in school history and fourth in the Big Ten. He is one of two throwers in the country this year with throw of more than 63 feet in the shot put and 215 feet in the hammer throw.
Haugen became only the second Badger to ever clear six feet in the high jump with her clearance of 6-0 en route to a win at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic. A native of Lyons Township, Illinois, Haugen ranks second in the Big Ten this year in the high jump and is tied for 10th in the NCAA.
Budde, Haugen and the Badgers head to Penn State for the 2017 Big Ten Outdoor Championships. Action in University Park, Pennsylvania, begins on Friday. Â
