MADISON, Wis. — Will Cierra Runge continue to have the golden touch for Team USA?
Representing the United States on the world stage for the third-consecutive year, the University of Wisconsin sophomore hopes to make it 3-for-3 in terms of helping the Americans bring home a gold medal.
Runge is scheduled to race Thursday as part of the U.S. entry in the women's 800-meter freestyle relay at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
She has been part of consecutive winning efforts in that event for Team USA, collecting golds at the 2015 World Championships and last summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The preliminary round of the 800 free relay is set for 3:48 a.m. (CT), with the final to follow at 12:16 p.m. The prelims air live on Olympic Channel and OlympicChannel.com, with the finals airing live on NBC Sports Network and NBCSports.com.
Runge was an All-American in her first season at Wisconsin in 2016-17 by placing seventh as part of the Badgers' entry in the 400-yard freestyle relay, an event in which she also helped the Badgers claim a Big Ten title while breaking the conference record with a time of 3:12.91. In all, Runge set six school records in her first year as a Badger
Most recently, Runge took fourth in the 800-meter free, fifth in the 400 free and sixth in the 200 free at the 2017 USA Swimming National Championships in June.
