The MTC finals will be played in the 10,000-seat UWM Panther Arena in downtown Milwaukee which hosted the 1998 Davis Cup World Semi-Final between the U.S. and Italy, drawing a total of 18,000 people over three days. The men's singles final will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, while the doubles final concludes the Classic and takes place at 2:00 p.m.
Fall Ball
Wisconsin had quite a successful outing at the Harvard Chowder Fest to start the fall season. Badger senior Josef Dodridge was named the tournament singles champion, while also helping fellow senior Chema Carranza take home the hardware in the doubles category.
Dodridge finished off 3-0 weekend on Sunday with a win over Notre Dame's Guillermo Ciamarra, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, coming behind from a down a set.
Dodridge's impact was also felt in doubles play where he and Carranza won the doubles championship after the two knocked off Harvard's Kenny Tao and Lucas Koelle, 8-3. Carranza also teamed up with freshman Martim Vilela to earned a win over a Notre Dame duo, 6-3. Dodridge paired up with sophomore Daniel Soyfer to beat a Harvard pair, 7-5.
On top of Wisconsin's individual accolades in the first tournament of the season, the Badgers have also racked up an impressive team record. UW sits at a 19-11 singles record and a 13-4 doubles record in the fall.
A LOOK BACK AT 2016-17
The Badgers enjoyed one of their finest seasons in recent history in head coach Danny Westerman's second year at the helm. Wisconsin finished the 2016-17 campaign with an 18-8 (7-4 in Big Ten play) record, ranked No. 28 in the ITA national poll and danced in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2010.
Wisconsin not only showed up, but advanced in the NCAA tournament with a win over San Diego, 4-1. It was the fifth NCAA tournament win in school history.
In addition to the team's wild success, individuals Lamar Remy and Josef Dodridge were both awarded with All-Big Ten honors. Remy snagged first-team honors – the first such honor for a Badger since 2011 – while Dodridge was named second-team.
The top two Badgers weren't the only ones to flourish. All six Wisconsin starters tallied 20-win seasons, a feat that hadn't been replicated by a single Badger since 2010.
A key piece of the Badgers success came in the doubles category. Wisconsin gained the doubles point an impressive 21 of 26 matches in the 2016 season.
