MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's soccer team (3-2-2 overall, 1-1-0 Big Ten) will be welcomed home to the familiar sight of the McClimon Complex this weekend. The Badgers will take on the Penn State Nittany Lions (1-3-2, 0-2-0 Big Ten) on Saturday at 7 p.m. (CT). Links for live statistics will be available on UWBadgers.com, while live updates will be available on Twitter (@BadgerMSoccer).
1. THE LAST TIME: The Badgers suffered a tough blow in University Park a year ago when the Nittany Lions earned a 2-1 overtime win over Wisconsin. The game was deadlocked at one before a Wisconsin foul in the box signaled a penalty shot that would be the game's deciding factor.
2. TOP-TIER TOMMY: Senior Tom Barlow was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after his show-stopping performances against Northwestern and Loyola. Through seven games, the senior has notched three goals and two assists, totaling eight points. Barlow accounts for 16 shots including seven on frame this season.
3. AT THE CUSP:Â Christopher Mueller has been showing his multifaceted arsenal as the senior ranks in the top-30 in the country in total points (11), assists-per-game (.71), total assists (5), and shots per game (3.43). Mueller teams up with Barlow to lead the team with seven points each. Mueller leads all Badgers in shots (21) and assists (3).
4. CAN'T SHAKE SCHILLING: The Badgers' goalkeeper, Philipp Schilling, starts the season with another bout of elite goalkeeping. The German native has racked up 22 saves and one shutout on the year. Schilling has allowed seven goals for a 1.09 goals-against average.
5. SCOUTING PENN STATE: The Nittany Lions have struggled in the early goings of the season. Penn States holds a 1-3-2 overall record as well as a winless 0-2-0 Big Ten record. Penn State has started off the year with a difficult schedule, including a 2-0 loss to No. 3 Maryland – a team that held the No. 1 spot in the national coaches poll at the time. The Nittany Lions also dropped a 3-0 decision to Big Ten foe Ohio State earlier this month.
