Sophomore shoots 71 to lead Badgers in final round
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Wisconsin sophomore Pete Kuhl shot his fifth under-par round as a Badger and second in as many tournaments, firing a 1-under par 71 in the final round of the Northern Intercollegiate on Monday at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Kuhl was 3-under for the day through 11 holes but fell back to even par following a bogey and double bogey on his next two holes. He was able to gather himself and string together four consecutive pars before recording a birdie on the par-4 ninth hole, his last hole of the round.
Kuhl moved up into a tied for 26th place with his round. Freshman Griffin Barela, who birdied two of his final four holes to finish at 1-over on the day, matched him with a 2-over par total of 218 for the tournament.
Sophomore Nick Robinson paced the Badgers, finishing one shot ahead of Kuhl and Barela, to earn a share of 23rd place.
As a team, the Badgers finished in a tie for ninth at 14-over par. Wisconsin competes again starting Sunday at the Marquette Invitational at Erin Hills Golf Club, the site of the 2017 US Open.
