MADISON, Wis. -- Despite a two-goal effort from sophomore forward
Sean Dhooghe, the No. 13/15 Wisconsin men's hockey team fell, 4-2, to Clarkson Friday night at Cheel Arena.Â
The Golden Knights (1-2-0, 0-0-0-0 ECAC) raced out to a two-goal lead early in the first period, scoring three minutes into the game before tacking on a power-play goal at the 10:56 mark.Â
Midway through the second period, Dhooghe beat Clarkson goaltender Jake Kielly glove-side in the final seconds of a UW power play to cut Clarkson's lead in half. Junior
Max Zimmer and senior
Matthew Freytag picked up assists on the goal.Â
Dhooghe added a second goal to the scoresheet after tapping in the rebound of a shot from sophomore defenseman
Wyatt Kalynuk to tie the game up early in the third period, but a late Clarkson scoring run put the Golden Knights up, 4-2, with less than four minutes remaining in the game.Â
The Badgers pulled junior goaltender
Jack Berry to add another attacker in the waning moments of the game, but could not rally past the Golden Knights.Â
Berry made 21 saves for the Badgers.Â

Straight from the Rink:Â
Sophomore forward Sean Dhooghe:
On the opening minutes of the game:Â
"I think in the first 15 minutes, we just didn't come out to play. Clarkson showed up ready to play hard and play through us. We were incredibly soft the first 15 minutes, which got them two quick goals. We were fighting from behind the rest of the game."Â
On the Badgers' play in the second period:
"I think there was no negative chatter on the bench. We picked each other up a little bit. Everyone kind of woke up and started playing Badger hockey. We only played Badger hockey for about half the game. If you don't play Badger hockey the whole 60 minutes, that's the result we get."Â
On his goals:
"First one, we were a little shuffled on our power play breakout. Baker gave the puck to Zimmer down low and he made a great pass out to me. The second one, Wyatt did a great job getting the puck through."Â
On special teams' play:Â
"Special teams played a huge role in tonight's game. We get a five-minute power play and we take a penalty. In that play alone, if we can pop one, two, three goals in that five minutes, the game's over. We just weren't sharp."Â
Up Next:Â
The Badgers round out their weekend out east with a trip to Canton, New York to face the St. Lawrence Saints. Puck drop is slated for 6 p.m. (CT).Â
