Badgers keep winning after a sweep at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour
MADISON, Wis. – After an eventful meet ended in a Wisconsin sweep at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour, UW cross country standouts Morgan McDonald and Alicia Monson were named Big Ten Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week.
This comes just two days after the duo were named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athletes of the Week.
McDonald made a splash in his first cross country meet since 2016, finishing with a time of 23 minutes, 17.6 seconds in the 8K race.
He is the first Badger to ever win the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. McDonald's efforts also helped lead Wisconsin to a second-place finish and a No. 3 ranking in the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll.
Monson topped last year's NCAA champion and Nuttycombe winner, Ednah Kurgat, and All-American, Weini Kelati. She finished the meet with an impressive time of 19 minutes, 33.3 seconds.
The Amery, Wisconsin, native led the Badgers to a sixth-place finish, their best ever finish at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. Monson is now ranked No. 2 in the FloXC Individual Rankings
The Badgers are preparing to host the 2018 Wisconsin Pre-Nationals on Saturday, October 13 at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. More than 80 men's and women's teams are expected to compete at the preview meet for the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 17 in Madison.
