Unhappy Valley: Wisconsin falls to Penn State, 22-10

Taylor leads Badgers with 1 TD, 185 yards rushing

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A quick start saw Jonathan Taylor put the Badgers on the board first, but Wisconsin's offense struggled in a 22-10 loss to No. 21 Penn State.

Taylor hurtled down the field on the Badgers' first possession of the game with a 71-yard scoring run to open up the game. He finished with 185 yards on 20 carries for his ninth game this season topping the 100-yard mark. However, Badgers quarterback Jack Coan completed only 9 of 20 passes for 60 yards with two interceptions and two lost fumbles.

With starting quarterback Alex Hornibrook out due to a head injury, Coan attempted just four passes in the first half and completed two for 10 yards. Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions were able to load up the box and keep Taylor from getting into the end zone following his first big run.

Penn State's Miles Sanders ran for 159 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, and QB Trace McSorley completed 19 of 25 passes for 160 yards and a TD. DeAndre Thompkins caught a touchdown pass for Penn State (7-3, 4-3 Big Ten), which held the Badgers (6-4, 4-3) to 125 yards in the second half and sacked Coan five times.

Jake Pinegar made three field goals for Penn State while Wisconsin kicker Rafael Gaglianone added the Badgers' final points midway through the third quarter.

But McSorley led back-to-back scoring drives to give the Nittany Lions the lead for good. He hit Thompkins for a 14-yard touchdown pass to cap an eight-play drive, then led the offense just past midfield to set up Pinegar's 49-yard field goal. Sanders added a 1-yard touchdown run midway through the second.

Zack Baun and Ryan Connelly joined T.J. Edwards in leading the Badgers' defensive pressure. Baun finished with 9 tackles, including 2.0 for loss and 1.5 sacks, along with a forced fumble. Connelly notched 10 tackles with 2.0 for loss, while Edwards recorded a team-high 14 tackles.

With only two games left in the regular season, Wisconsin next travels to Purdue on Saturday, Nov. 17, for its final road game in league play. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. (CT), with the game airing live on BTN.
