Wisconsin travels to Austin for Lone Star State showdown with strong field
MADISON, Wis. – As the Wisconsin swimming and diving team gears up for a four-day stay at the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational in Austin, Texas, here are five things you should know.
Â
1. Freaky Fast:Â Wisconsin junior Beata Nelson bagged six wins for her team of conference all-stars in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge the weekend of Nov. 10-11. She recorded the nation's fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke at 50.86 seconds, the only automatic NCAA qualifying time in the event so far this season.Â
Nelson snatched three individual wins – in the 100 back, 200 back (1:51.85) and 200 individual medley (1:54.94) – and contributed to three Big Ten relay victories in the 400 medley relay (3:25.71), 200 medley relay (1:34.96) and 400 freestyle relay (3:11.60).Â
Â
2. Badger Bouncers:Â The Wisconsin diving contingent capped the Hawkeye Invitational with three finals appearances the weekend of Nov. 15-17.Â
Kevin Pomeroy (men's 3-meter), Andrew Pearce (men's 1-meter) and Hazel Hertting (women's 3-meter) were all high-flying finalists after posting top-eight scores in prelims. The trio also secured NCAA zone meet nods in the process.
Â
3. Meet the Meet:Â The Texas Hall of Fame Invitational convenes six of the nation's premier programs at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center this Wednesday through Saturday.Â
The No. 20-ranked Wisconsin women's team will go head-to-head with No. 1 Texas, No. 6 USC, Arizona and Harvard.Â
Â
On the men's side, the Badgers will battle against No. 6 Texas, No. 7 USC, No. 8 Stanford, No. 25 Arizona and Harvard.Â
