
Badgers spoil Scarlet Knights’ visit

UW won the Big Ten home opener, 7-0
MADISON, Wis. – Competing in Nielsen Tennis Stadium for the first time in over a month, the Wisconsin women's tennis team did not let the home court advantage go to waste.
Grabbing the doubles point in a long, intense set of matches, the Badgers (1-1 Big Ten, 7-7 overall) jumped to a 1-0 lead over the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers (0-1, 5-5) and cruised to a 7-0 sweep Friday afternoon.
The No. 2 doubles pair of freshman Lexi Keberle and sophomore Melissa Pick got things going for Wisconsin, defeating Jaci Cochrane and Maya Jacobs, 6-4.
Rutgers was able to even it up by winning in the No. 1 slot, 7-6, with a 7-5 tiebreaker over the duo of senior Kelsey Grambeau and freshman MaryAnn Rompf.
However, Wisconsin's No. 3 combo of junior Sara Castellano and sophomore Michelle Linden secured the point, winning 7-6 with a thrilling 11-9 tiebreaker.
Wisconsin did not miss a beat, carrying the winning and intensity right into singles play.
Keberle breezed by Mingxiu Du, 6-0, 6-0, giving Wisconsin a 2-0 lead. Keberle is now 10-2 in the dual season and undefeated in Big Ten play.
Giving the Badgers a 3-0, Linden handled Isabelle da Silva, 6-0, 6-3.
Securing Wisconsin's Big Ten home opener victory was Castellano, defeating Chloe Lee, 7-5, 6-2.
Pick, playing in the No. 5 slot, added to UW's lead by knocking off Maya Jacobs, 6-2, 6-3. The sophomore is 8-3 in dual play this season.
Grambeau shot the lead to 6-0 by defeating Cochrane, 6-2, 7-6. Rompf secured Wisconsin's shut out with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 victory over Kat Muzik.
Up next: Wisconsin remains at home this Sunday, welcoming in Maryland. The match is set for Noon (CT).
