MADISON, Wis. – After opting out of competition last weekend in Iowa the Badgers are heading to warmer weather in California starting Wednesday and will have athletes competing in the Mt. Sac Relays, Beach Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational throughout the weekend.

The UW multi-event athletes get things going at Bryan Clay on Wednesday and Thursday in the combined events portion of the meet while the rest of the Badgers will compete at the invite Thursday and Friday. A number of Badgers will also compete Thursday and Friday at the Mt. Sac Relays, held at El Camino College in Los Angeles and the Beach Invitational, Friday and Saturday, in Long Beach, California.

Fans can keep up with all things Badger track on Twitter (@BadgerTrackXC) and catch daily recaps on UWBadgers.com. The Bryan Clay Invitational and Beach Invitational can be seen live on FloTrack while the Mt. Sac Relays can be viewed on USATF.TV.

1. REMEMBER WHEN: After a week off it might feel like a while since the Badgers hit the track. UW last competed at the Spec Towns Invitational on April 6-7 when Brenna Detra picked up a win in the 400 meters, her second straight win of the season while Sophia Rivera tallied another top finish in the javelin after breaking the UW school record in San Diego. Pole vault extraordinaire, Taylor Amann also picked up a runner-up finish with her mark of 13-7 3/4 putting her at the top of the Big Ten standings.

2. ONE FOR THE BOOKS: Junior Hanna Barton added to the success of the Badgers' mighty group of throwers while in Georgia with a spot in the record books. Barton finished runner-up in the discus with a throw of 172-6 (52.59m) which ranks No. 3 on the school's top-10 list.

3. BACK TO THE HEPTATHLON: UW will have three athletes compete at the Bryan Clay Combined Events Invitational on Wednesday and Thursday as Georgia Ellenwood, Casie Pawlik and Kelsey Sullivan will make their season debut in the seven-discipline event. The school record holder in the heptathlon, Ellenwood looks to become the first Badger to eclipse the 6000-point mark in her first heptathlon since the 2016 outdoor season.

4. STRAIGHT FROM MICK BYRNE: "We're going to get some good weather, get away from this crap. Everybody in the world is going out to the west coast this weekend so it's a great opportunity for our kids to continue to get better and continue to chase those regional times.

"We're getting down to the crunch of the season and very soon our roster for Big Tens is going to be picked."

5. RELAY EXCITING: After wrapping up competition in California, the Badgers will return to the Midwest for the Drake Relays in Iowa and the National Relays in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
