MADISON, Wis. – The Big Ten released the 2018-19 men's hockey schedule on Tuesday, and 21 of Wisconsin's 34 regular-season games will take place against teams that played in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, including 12 against teams that took part in the 2018 NCAA Frozen Four.
Dates are subject to change. Times will be released closer to the season.
"This is a challenging schedule," said head coach Tony Granato. "We are going to love playing it and I think our fans will really enjoy it. It's not just with the Big Ten games we have, but with national powers coming to the Kohl Center and some old rivals, it is going to be a fun year."
The 2018-19 season opens at the Kohl Center on Oct. 12 when Boston College visits for a weekend series.
That marks the first of five non-conference weekends for the Badgers, including the first four weekends of the season.
After Boston College, UW travels to Clarkson and St. Lawrence for the Oct. 19-20 weekend. A home series with Michigan Tech follows (Oct. 26-27), before the Badgers visit North Dakota (Nov. 2-3).
Wisconsin jumps into the Big Ten Conference season on Nov. 9-10 when border-rival Minnesota visits.
Trips to Frozen Four-competitors Ohio State and Michigan, as well as a pair of home series against Penn State and Michigan State get the Badgers to the semester break.
UW returns to action after the start of 2019 with a home set against Denver on Jan. 4-5, then an exhibition contest against the U.S. Under-18 Team at the Kohl Center takes place Saturday, Jan. 12.
That leads the Badgers back into the conference season and a series with 2018 NCAA runner-up Notre Dame the weekend of Jan. 19. One game will take place at the Kohl Center and the other at United Center in Chicago.
Then the Badgers play four of their final six series on the road, visiting Minnesota, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Penn State, while playing host to Ohio State and Michigan.
The Big Ten tournament will take place over three weeks for the second-consecutive season and will take place at campus sites.
The 2019 NCAA Frozen Four runs April 11-13 at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Wisconsin men's hockey program has seen a double-digit percentage increase in attendance since Tony Granato's hiring just two years ago. Fans can now secure their season tickets for next season by participating in the Badger Select process. The deadline to participate in the priority seating process ends Friday, June 15. Information on season tickets is available at UWBadgers.com or by visiting BadgerSelect.com. Wisconsin hockey group tickets and packages go on-sale Tuesday, Sept. 4. Single game ticket products become available to the general public on Friday, Sept. 21.
