EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Wisconsin has yet to win its first road game of the season, and tonight, in rainy conditions, it was no different as the Badgers fell to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 3-0.
UW looked great in the first half of play, outshooting the Cougars 5-1 in the first frame. The second half was a different story, as SIUE took a 9-3 shot advantage over Wisconsin and punched home three goals.
The goals came in the 65
th, 79
th and 89
th minutes of play from SIUE's Keegan McHugh , Lachlan McLean, and Jorge Gonzalez.
Wisconsin keeper junior
Dean Cowdroy led saves 3-2, but the Badgers fell in corners, 4-3, and were awarded more cards taking the category, 8-7.
Straight from the pitch:
Head coach John Trask
"It was a tough game in some tough conditions. Some of the ball were carried in the wind and rain which led to chances for them. They caught us a couple times on the counter attack. Congrats to SIUE. We've got a heck of a battle on Sunday against Bradley which will be another good test for our guys. But this is why we play these games... to get ready for the Big Ten schedule."
Up Next: The Badgers look to shake the loss off their shoulders as they continue their road campaign in Illinois with a match against Bradley on Sunday at 6 p.m.
